Welcome to Ipswich
Ipswich in Suffolk sits on the estuary of the River Orwell, 60 miles from the capital. It’s a thriving, up and coming location - perfectly blending history and heritage with a cosmopolitan, contemporary vibe. Ipswich is in fact the county town of Suffolk – and as such it’s a commercial zone offering employment opportunities, retail centres and entertainment hubs for the surrounding areas. Its smart waterfront is lined with cafes, galleries and shops – with modern glass-fronted buildings and the 19th century Old Custom House mixing old with new.
The town is also of great historical significance. The world-famous anglo-saxon burial site Sutton Hoo is located nearby, as is Bounty Manor, a gorgeous cottage surrounded by carefully managed gardens filled with flowers. More information and interactive exhibits can be found at the Ipswich Museum and Ipswich Transport Museum.
For keen shoppers the town centre boasts three main retail areas including two malls – the Buttermarket Shopping Centre and Sailmakers Shopping Centre. Big name outlets and stores can also be found on the main high street Tavern Street. The pretty Christchurch Park and Holywells Park are perfect for bike rides, afternoon strolls and picnics. If you fancy something a little different a host of theme parks and beaches are also less than an an hour’s drive hour away – including Mannings Amusement Park, Suffolk Leisure Park and Diggerland.
Ipswich can be reached via London Liverpool Street Station and a variety of road networks running to the M11 motorway to the west of the town.
