Eastbourne
Resort town Eastbourne offers sophisticated seaside fun thanks to its picturesque coastal location and stunning surroundings. Golden sandy beaches stretch for miles alongside classic attractions including fancy fish and chip shops and open air bars serving cocktails overlooking the sea. Built in the 1800s, Eastbourne Pier offers up a traditional seaside experience with its Victoria tea rooms and arcade.
Fancy a more cosmopolitan experience? Shop till you drop in the Arndale Centre or unique and quirky Little Chelsea shopping quarter or grab a bite to eat and drink at Sovereign Harbour. Attractions in the town centre include 1930s bandstand with its colourful pillars, the Towner Gallery and historic Eastbourne Redoubt, a circular coastal defence built in the 1800s. The town also boasts a number of markets each with their own individual charm and character. Fresh seafood is firmly on the menu throughout and is served at most local establishments - grab the catch of the day with a glass of wine or sample some local cheese.
If you want to have a wander further afield the surrounding area is simply beautiful and packed with attractions and stunning locations to explore. Head up in the hills at South Downs National Park, take in the scenery at the famous Beachy Head with its iconic striped lighthouse. Paths chart much of the coastal profile nearby, offering stunning views over the sea. Transport links are excellent – with almost 100 trains per day to London’s Victoria station. The nearest airport is London Gatwick, which is an hour away by car.
